Take Away Art
“TAKE AWAY ART” 2001 Y.O.T.A. commission, hosted by the Greensand Trust and the Forestry Commission. Time Based Public Art Dead Man’s Hill Lay-by on the A6 between Bedford and Luton. Macro and micro digital photography, digital imagery, and text; issue based digital imagery informed via a collaborative process with ecology and environmental experts including a geologist, coppice workers, woodland managers, an ornithological scientist, and a botanist. All images were printed onto everyday objects and given away from the “Take Away” Art Van in the Lay-by. The everyday objects included; key rings, mugs, T-shirts, tote bags, postcards, and greetings cards. These objects were available to the travelling public from the “Take Away” Art Van based in the lay-by for 3 consecutive weekends. To obtain an object the public had to barter. The currency was a postcard upon which they wrote or drew aspects relating to their journey or their perception of the environment. A photograph was then taken of every barter transaction and some transactions were digitally sound recorded.
